Chinese Tourist (L) Visa Extension - DO NOT OVERSTAYED!

Holding a Chinese Tourist (L) Visa and want to stay longer in China?

You can request an extension from the PSB (Public Security Bureau Entry and Exit Administration Office / 公安部出入境管理局) from the city of your stay at least seven days before the expiration of your visa.

The applicant can apply for an extension of no longer than 30 days per application. May apply for second or third extension but this depends on the duration of each stay of the original entry visa. Total extensions per entry to China cannot exceed the length of the original permitted stay.

However no guarantee that the extension will be granted. The decision will be made by the representative, who will decide according to the situation. Before apply, please contact your nearest PSB for information and requirements.

Here are the documents you shall prepare before submission (base on my previous application experience):

Basic documents
a. Passport - Original passport and photocopy of passport's data page and the photo page if it is separate, as well as the Chinese visa page and entry stamp page.
b. Application Form - One completed Application Form
c. Photo - One recent 6 months colour passport photos (bare-head, full face, clear) against a white background (size: 48mm x 33mm) attached.
d. Itinerary - Details of the planned visit (incl. arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, accomodation arrangements, etc.)

Supporting documents (may varies at different PSB Offices)
a. Bank statement - Bank statement from local bank to prove of sufficient financial
b. Inviter (if any) -
i) Chinese ID Card - Photocopy of both front and back sides
ii) Household Registration Book (户口本) - Photocopy of information page and house owner personal details page

When submission accepted by officer incharge, receipt will issue. Expected collection date stated at the receipt.

Application cost: RMB 160
Processing time: 3~7 working days


Extension visa start counting once original entry visa expired. You must exit China / apply for further extension before the end of permitted to stay date stated on extension visa.


After receiving extension visa, remember to update/re-register your Temporary Residence Registration
